This study is to examine how the parental environment affects students’ career expectations along with self-efficacy. Although students’ career development is a critical aspect of education, most educational interventions have focused on the improvement of academic achievement rather than connecting academic achievement with career planning. Therefore, the roles of parents become more important for students’ career development. Parental involvement affects not only the academic achievement of students but also their academic self-efficacy. Then, self-efficacy heightens the career expectations and leads students to have an appropriate career development process. This study explores the effects of the parental environment including parents’ expectations and involvement in students’ academic planning on students’ self-efficacy and career expectations through path analysis with ELS 2002 data set.
