Fri, April 13, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom C

Abstract

Understanding the impact of the recent school reforms on the teaching environment is essential to understanding their degree of success and failure. There have been a number of studies that examined the role of the environment on teacher satisfaction, motivation and behavior, but very few have examined the impact of the recent schooling accountability reforms on the teaching environment and the consequent teachers’ responses. This study analyzes the extent to which the changes in teaching and schooling practices in response to school reforms have impacted teacher motivation and career decisions. This study uses a national survey of teachers to ascertain correlates of teacher behavior and practices.
