Neuroethics in Mind: Education in the Wake of Neurotechnology

Sun, April 15, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, West Room 204

Abstract

No scientific inquiry has brought deeper impact on popular culture and social imaginary than neuroscience. In its wake, neurotechnologies are multiplying, directly impacting on educational researches and practices. The overall reductive neurotalk that has invaded the field confirms the danger of oversimplification, leaving open many ethical challenges now falling under the scope of neuroethics. If neuroethics can be view as an ethics of technology, I argue that, to the contrary, it could offer a unique platform to the many stakeholders in education. Grounded in the framework of radical embodied cognition, such an educational neuroethics would also imply taking a critical look into the embodied nature of ethics itself, and into ourselves, to redefine education in the wake of neurotechnology.
