Measuring Student Perceptions of Adult Influences on Their Classroom Learning

Abstract

The study of parental involvement in a child’s education has not been a common aspect of learning environment research. There is a need for more investigations in this area. Also, quantitative learning environment research typically uses Classical Test theory approaches rather than approaches based on Modern Measurement Theory (e.g. IRT and Rasch models). There is a need to construct more measures with items that are sample invariant and person scores that are not dependent on the items administered. This report examines the properties of a 19-item scale by analysis of data from 1760 students who responded on a three-point scale (disagree, agree, strongly agree). Data from the scale generally complied well with the requirements of the Rasch Rating Scale model.
