This study examined the sensitivity of school effects to the outcome variables used in the analysis (Mathematics or Reading) and the type of model used (Gain Score Model vs. Layered Model). Results found, when the Gain Score model was used, correlations between the school effect estimates based on the mathematics and reading outcome ranged from -.41 to .53. Under the Layered Effects model, correlations between the effect estimates for the outcomes ranged from -.71 to .97. For the mathematics outcome, the correlations between the effect estimates from the Gain Score model and the Layered Effects model ranged from -.25 to .95. In reading, the correlations between the effect estimates from the different models ranged from -.41 to .91.
