Spatialized Assemblages and Suppressions: The Learning “Positioning” of Grade 6 Students in a Township School

Tue, April 17, 8:15 to 10:15am, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, West Room 206

Abstract

This paper focuses on the learning positioning practices of selected students in a township school in Cape Town. Based on a qualitative study, this paper discusses how four Grade 6 students encounter their learning as they navigate their way across their everyday and school domains. The primary argument is that their 'learning positioning practices' are performed in the light of a number of spatial disjunctures amidst life in the township and their educational experiences in their school and classroom.
