Tue, April 17, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 12

Abstract

Study purposes were: (1) to qualitatively examine middle school attitudes and practices associated with benchmark administration and resulting data; and (2) to quantitatively examine the development, administration, psychometric properties, and data analysis of benchmarks associated with the middle schools of a large, Texas public school system. This study was based on the comprehensive data extraction from multiple data sources, multiple quantitative analyses, focus group discussions, interviews, surveys, classroom observations, and document analysis. It was recommended the district would greatly benefit from aligning formative and summative assessments with grades and other intended outcomes. Although specific results could only be generalized to the participating district, the mixed method model utilized in the study can be utilized by any school district.
