Paper Summary

Teaching Moorsoldaten: The Narrative and Moral Nature of Teacher Knowledge

Sat, April 14, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom B

Abstract

In our paper, we will study the narrative and moral nature of teacher knowledge. Teachers use teaching narratives or curriculum stories, in which they organise the content of teaching for pedagogical purposes by telling. Through theoretical and philosophical consideration, we will explore the hermeneutical point of these teaching narratives and increase our understanding of their pedagogical meaning. The concentration camp song ‘Moorsoldaten’ is used as an empirical material to illustrate what teachers need to understand in their pedagogical practice, as well as what teaching such narratives as ‘Moorsoldaten’ represents.
