Abstract

This summative evaluation study aims to examine the effects of a remedial reading program in virtual charter schools across different states. The remedial reading program was developed based on careful review of reading remediation research. It was designed to help students in grades 3 through 5 who are two or more reading levels below their grade level. We are interested in knowing whether or not students who implement the course as designed during one full school year are able to make progress and catch up with their grade-level peers. We would also like to investigate ways to improve the current course through a random survey of participants.
