Shifting Career Theory and Practice Paradigms Through the Lens of Career Adaptability

Abstract

This paper replicates and extends a study by Creed, Fallon and Hood (2008) that successfully tested a multidimensional model of career adaptability using a college student population. While replicating the basic tenets of their model, this study extends this work by a) using a large sample of secondary age students (n=2500) that were drawn from 14 schools in four states, b) using theoretically and empirically derived adaptability indicators that have been found to relate to promoting college and career readiness in previous research, c) extending the range of outcomes to include college and career readiness indicators; and adding a context variable related to the quality learning environment students receive.
