Abstract

This paper presents lessons for sustaining an effective technology initiative based on the findings of a multi-year evaluation of a statewide technology integration project. An analysis of focus group interviews, surveys, and student achievement data reveal four lessons: encourage and actively support collaboration, practice shared leadership, provide professional development appropriate for teachers of different skill levels and content areas, and have an adaptable plan in place that is developed in conjunction with all staff members. Findings over the last eight years indicate these are critical factors for schools seeking to integrate instructional technology and improve teacher practice in meaningful ways.
