Sat, April 14, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Marriott Pinnacle, Floor: Fourth Level, Ambleside

Abstract

The study examined the potential of an action research study day as a form of professional development for encouraging reflective practice in education. Participants in the study included three university faculty members who co-organized the study day as part of an annual action research conference. Results of the study indicated four themes to guide utilization of action research study days as professional development for reflective practice. The themes include: a) the potential of a study day for action research community building; b) the use of experiential learning for developing reflective practice capacity; c) ‘motion sickness’ in action research as an entryway to deeper reflection; d) the importance of working effectively with diverse perspectives on educational action research.
