Transforming to Inquiry Classrooms Three Grades at a Time with Action Research

Tue, April 17, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom C

Abstract

This study describes an elementary charter school’s collaborative inquiry on the effect of the utilization of action research processes on teaching and learning. The purpose of this study is to show how action research and action learning, working simultaneously, create a learning community that provides students and teachers in K, 1st, and 2nd grade classrooms in an urban school district with an approach to learning that is dynamic, engaging and educationally effective. Implementing a LOOK > THINK > ACT heuristic provides a scaffold to guide teachers and students through systematic steps of planning, instruction, assessment, and evaluation.
