The purpose of this study is to investigate the reliability of student reported parental education on NAEP student background questionnaire. In order to achieve this goal, a special sample of students (around 1260) who in the Spring of 2007 took the NAEP and Early Childhood Longitudinal Survey Kindergarten cohort (ECLS-K) grade 8 reading assessments is used. This common sample, which has both student and parent reported parental education, is examined for the concordance between student- and parent-reported parental education using all students and by gender and race/ethnicity.
