Abstract

Stanford’s Global Climate Change: Professional Development for K-12 Teachers is a unique collaboration between the Stanford School of Education and School of Earth Sciences. The project provides teacher professional development on the science of global climate change, pedagogical strategies, and curriculum materials. Our in-depth evaluation and classroom research has focused on understanding what students learned from their exposure to and interaction with the Global Climate Change curriculum, what the classroom implementation of the curriculum looked like, and how and why its quality varied among teachers. Our findings have implications for professional development programs in Climate Change education as well on how student “success” is assessed and evaluated given the unique demands and requirements of climate change education.
