Abstract

This paper seeks to develop a conceptual framework for understanding the dialectical relationship between education, conflict and development. More specifically the paper seeks to develop conflict sensitive indicators for the educational sector in conflict and post-conflict environments with a view to identify positive (developmental) and negative (conflict exacerbating) potential of the educational programs in general and policy, curricular and textual discourses in particular. Using critical discourse analysis and critical ethnography the paper examine the changes in educational policy and discourses in Pakistan and Afghanistan to see how these changes have contributed to exacerbate or reduce conflict in these societies.
