Abstract

In this exploratory study, regression analysis was used to determine the factors that students consider to be important in evaluating teaching, and the extent to which these factors influence student ratings of courses and overall teaching effectiveness in face-to-face, online and web-assisted courses. The mean rating on teaching effectiveness for face-to-face courses was found to be significantly higher than that of online courses. The lists of diagnostic factors, when ordered by their significance and strength as predictors of student ratings of course as a whole and teaching effectiveness, were different for online, face-to-face, and web-assisted courses. Amount learned was the most significant factor in five out of the six regression models analyzed.
