Abstract

This study examines seven potential determinants (professional development chance, empowerment, interaction, working demand, compensation, race, gender) of teachers’ job satisfaction using structural equation modeling (SEM). 1999-2000 SASS data with 3498 teachers’ responses to 22 questions (76 sub-questions) is analyzed. The results indicate that supportive organizational culture including effective professional development instruction, proper empowerment, and beneficial interaction within organization promotes teachers’ job satisfaction. Also, unpleasant working condition has negative influence on teachers’ working attitude. Compensation, race or gender does not influence teachers’ job satisfaction.
