A Study of iGoogle PLE (Personal Learning Environment) Management as the Predictor for Self-Regulation in Online Learning

Abstract

Personal Learning Environment (PLE) enables learners to set learning goals, manage both content and process, and communicate with others so that their learning goals can be achieved. iGoogle PLE is a collection of tools brought together under the conceptual notion of openness, interoperability, and learner control. This study examined how the level of initiative and the sense of control in iGoogle PLE management predicted each of the four aspects of self-regulation in online learning. The level of initiative in iGoogle PLE could predict task strategies in online learning while the sense of control could predict both time management and task strategies. Educators should communicate with the learners regarding the importance of PLEs creation and management.
