Residency to Relay: Exploring Faculty Perceptions on the Future of Teacher Preparation Programs

Abstract

This paper provides multiple perspectives on the phenomenon of current and future trends within the field of teacher preparation. Alternative teacher preparation programs have become an integral part of the teacher preparation landscape, more recently under the auspices of schools of education within institutions of higher education. Using interview data from Schools of Education in New York City, I will look at how faculty at six schools of education conceptualize the future direction of teacher education as alternative programs such as the Relay School of Education enters the realm of teacher preparation.
