Presentations as Aesthetic Learning Experiences: An Exploration of Strategies Used By Exceptional Presenters

Mon, April 16, 4:05 to 6:05pm, Sheraton Wall Centre, Floor: Fourth Level, North Port Alberni

Abstract

Much has been written about improving presentations, but articles and books tend to focus on the basics (e.g., practice your presentation, don’t read your slides, and use a specific font size). We believe that understanding what makes a presentation more than simply a format for information delivery is key to its use as an effective and engaging instructional strategy. In exploring the question, “What makes an exceptional presentation?” by examining the situational qualities of exceptional presentations from TED (http://www.ted.com/), we have derived specific recommendations for designing and delivering presentations that are aesthetic learning experiences.
