Abstract

This paper will present a proposal for teacher education programs in Portugal that was developed within a European project - the EUCIM‐TE (European Core Curriculum for Mainstreamed Second Language – Teacher Education). This was a EU-Comenius project coordinated by the University of Cologne, Germany, that involved eight European countries. The main aim of the project was to improve the pre‐ and in‐service training of all teachers in relation to their work with immigrant pupils, by creating a European Core Curriculum for teacher education with national adaptations. The main purpose of this Curriculum was to improve effective participation of immigrant pupils in education, and therefore to promote social inclusion and equality.
