Academic Performance and Satisfaction With Homework Completion Among College Students: Do Self-Efficacy, Self-Regulation, Help Seeking, and Course Context Make a Difference?

Mon, April 16, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, West Room 224

Abstract

This study examined the association between motivation, self-regulation, and homework practices at the course-level and student-level. Multilevel analyses were conducted to assess student-level and course-level. Course-level variation accounted for 30% of the variance in students’ obtained final course grade. These findings support using homework logs as a self-regulation tool that educators can use to enhance their students’ self-regulation of learning and motivation. Consideration of contextual and individual factors related to homework completion, self-regulation of learning, and motivation can help to explain the development of self-directed learners. Educators are encouraged to use homework logs in order to provide feedback to students about the factors that influence their academic performance.
