Abstract

The Research Alliance was founded in 2008 as a research center housed at New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. While independent of the New York City Department of Education (DOE), we work with the DOE and other stakeholders to identify important questions for research and to provide valid and reliable evidence to help solve problems and build capacity in schools throughout NYC. The centerpiece of our mission is to serve as a source of independent, non-partisan evidence about the condition of New York City Schools and the effectiveness of its school improvement initiatives. Recent studies include: Children First and Student Outcomes: 2003-2010, The Middle School Teacher Turnover Project - A Descriptive Analysis of Teacher Turnover in New York City’s Middle Schools, and Navigating the Middle Grades and Preparing Students for High School Graduation.
