This paper presents the design of an immersive simulation and inquiry activity for technology-enhanced classrooms. Using a co-design method, researchers worked with a high school Biology teacher to create a rainforest simulation, distributed with several large displays in the room to immerse students in the environment. Eight students participated in the activity, where they worked as “field researchers” individually, in groups, and as a collective, to observe changes in life forms and gather evidence of evolution. Results suggest that students were engaged in the experience. They were impressed by the use of tablets in the activity and the overall immersivity of the room. Content analysis of knowledge objects indicated a progressive degree of complexity in expression throughout the activity.
