Sun, April 15, 8:15 to 10:15am, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 17

Abstract

Mindfulness is a concept and a practice deeply rooted in Buddhism philosophy and belief. To be mindful is to be able to live in the present moment, to be aware of and sensitive to our surroundings, others and ourselves. Mindfulness provides a method for achieving being-with and being-for naturally and spontaneously that are profoundly represented in Daoist teaching. To be mindful in teaching is to be with others, with curriculum, with students, and with the educational context, embodying loving kindness and nonviolence in relations. Teaching with mindfulness transforms our knowing to “being with” and “being for” which engender our positions and actions toward an embodied pedagogy.
