Abstract

Race to the Top (RttT) reforms in states around the nation have initiated changes in the way teachers are evaluated, certified, and the way effective teaching is defined. The focus of this session is on sets of video-based action research studies aimed at analyzing and assessing classroom teaching and teaching effectiveness directed at student learning in Professional Development School (PDS) partnership settings. The sets of studies are part of a larger research project which has as its action goals (1) analyzing and improving teaching-learning performances in partnering classrooms, (2) investigating teaching effectiveness and (3) instituting change in the college’s PDS partnerships. Emphasis is on selected findings of the studies, RttT reforms, and the use of data to institute integrative change.
