Through their 'Fix Our Schools Don’t Just Close Them' campaign, Coalition for Education Justice (CEJ) leaders challenge the rationale and implementation of school closure policy in New York City, and propose an alternative vision and set of actions for schools to improve. In this study I trace CEJ's organizing efforts to promote a school transformation zone; support and prepare parents to organize their own fights at schools proposed for closure; and engage elected officials, union administrators and others to put pressure on the New York City Department of Education and the Mayor. I also revisit education organizing theories of change.
