Promoting Social Justice in Professional Development School Partnerships Through Action Research

Abstract

This presentation examines the role that action research plays in promoting social justice in Professional Development Schools in two universities. Social justice is viewed as the process of extending and enhancing life opportunities for all learners. A survey was administered to interns, administrators and teachers (n=100) to learn more about the action research process as a tool for promoting social justice. A small school faculty (n = 11) engaged in a two year collaborative action research study to improve student learning (n=340). Findings indicate student achievement was positively impacted. This presentation examines the results of both the survey and action research and how these results have informed our PDS practices.
