The Order Effects on Teacher Professional Development Surveys

Abstract

Research on order effects has yielded inconsistent results. While some studies indicate that order affects people’s judgment in survey responses, others find a small or negligible effect. This paper aims to investigate order effects on ratings of overall quality and the importance of individual predictors in evaluating teacher professional development. To accomplish this, the items of the survey are manipulated to create different orders, followed by key driver analysis to examine if a difference found in the key indicators of the overall quality of workshop can be attributed to ordering of items. By conducting study, we hope to make contributions to the understanding of order effects and the subsequent impact on further analyses on which important decisions are made.
