Abstract

It is crucial that scholars and researchers share their empirical work in ways that resonate with a broader audience, especially marginalized communities. This is not to say that academic writing does not have utility, indeed it does. Rather, there is a need for a broader range of the types of writing produced by researchers and scholars. In this paper, black educator experience in the context of New Orleans post Katrina provides the backdrop for the central discussion of how research can expand its reach, and thereby its effectiveness in improving education to serve the public good. Specifically, this can be accomplished in part by writing in more accessible ways without compromising methodological rigor.
