An Investigation of Students’ Use Experience of E-Textbooks: A Multicampus Study

Sun, April 15, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom B

Abstract

Skyrocketing textbook costs threaten the accessibility and affordability of higher education. In hopes of addressing this, this survey study was conducted to gain an understanding of California State University students’ experiences using licensed e-textbooks. 662 student surveys from 5 campuses during the fall of 2010 were returned. Key findings include that 1) more than one-third of the students were satisfied with the e-textbook, and 2) students were not likely to say they would use an e-textbook again or recommend one to a friend. However, those students who found the e-textbook easy to use were more likely to say they would use another or recommend one to a friend.
