Research in neuromusic has blossomed in recent years due to the development of more sophisticated brain-imaging techniques. Due to the complex nature of this research, however, findings are often discussed in isolated scholarly circles without sufficient dissemination to practicing musicians and educators - those who might best be able to implement changes in the professions of music learning and performance.
In this paper we aim to synthesize research from the fields of neuroscience, psychology, education and music to gain fresh perspectives on how individuals respond to music and develop through musical experiences. By so doing, we hope to offer new insights to music practitioners and teachers for expanding, and refining the technical and emotional processes involved in their art.
