The Effects of a School-Based Mentoring Program on Students’ Access to Information Regarding College Admission and Tuition and Fees

Abstract

School-based mentoring (SBM) programs aim to provide social, academic support, and future plans for students above and beyond what they receive in the classroom and at home. This paper examined the effects of SBM on students’ access to information and resources related to college admission and tuition and fees. Participants in this study were 67 eleventh-grade high school students who were randomly assigned to a control and treatment group. Cross-tabulations were used to determine the effects of SBM on access to information regarding college admission and tuition and fees. The results of this study indicate that SBM has a positive impact on providing students with access to information regarding college admission and tuition and fees through interactions with mentors.
