The purpose of this study is to determine distinguishing characteristics of action research via a consensus building process within the AERA Action Research (AR) SIG community in pursuit of coherence about what is considered to be adequate and relevant practices and approaches of AR. This is a case study that utilizes a 3-round Delphi method. A panel of 25 members, representatives of AERA AR SIG global community, will be selected to participate. The expected findings comprise highly rated distinguishing characteristics of action research within educational settings that would serve as boundaries of conceptual frameworks, and ultimately foster coherence; guide the development of meaningful knowledge and understanding; allow critiquing quality and rigor; and further enhancements and changes within a systemic view.
