Abstract

Our collaborative research efforts involved critical document analysis of environmental education frameworks and resources from across North America and around the world. Focus groups and teacher interviews conducted over a period of 16 months informed a collaborative writing process that involved both teachers and academics. The resulting framework offers a conceptual view for introducing environmental learning in all settings, while providing several principles of teaching and learning to guide teachers in designing integrated activities for a variety of learning contexts. This paper relates how the concepts of environmental learning and experience together empower teachers to guide learning in new and exciting ways and tells the story of the frameworks development and inception.
