Using a within-school design, 52 schools were randomly assigned to receive ST Math, spatially-driven individualized math software, in second and third grades or fourth and fifth grades. This paper reports effects of ST Math on standardized math test scores for the second year of implementation using longitudinal data and hierarchical linear modeling. Analyses reveal a significant effect of ST Math on student math scores, with an effect size near one third of a standard deviation. ST Math has a particular impact on English Learners and students below proficiency, closing achievement gaps and bringing them near important benchmarks. These results have implications for students and schools given an educational climate focusing on high math standards and school accountability.
