Research to Practice: Experience From the Ohio School Improvement Diagnostic Review

Abstract

The purpose of this presentation is to present the results of an evaluation of the Ohio School Improvement Diagnostic Review (SIDR). The SIDR was grounded in scientifically-based research practices, aligned with the themes that emerged from the Ohio Schools of Promise case studies, and aligned to Ohio’s academic standards and guidelines. The underlying conditions/assumptions are based on knowledge of high performing schools, emphasizing lessons from schools with high student achievement and large populations of traditionally underachieving students. This paper presents the findings of the evaluation and discusses how the daily constraints a State Education Agency (SEA) faces can hinder even the best efforts at school improvement.
