Effective Interprofessional Education in Child Welfare for Prelicensure Nursing, Social Work, and Education Students

Abstract

In response to an identified gap in collaborative practice, nursing, social work and education faculty at UBC’s Okanagan campus, were awarded a 2010-2012 “teaching and learning” research grant to implement and evaluate an interprofessional education workshop, multidisciplinary learning community and practitioner based focus groups. Collaborating with nursing, social work and school based practitioners who work in the field of child welfare, pedagogical methods were developed to introduce pre-licensure students to interprofessional collaborative practice. Data was collected from the workshop, learning community and a practitioner based focus group. This paper discusses this work and analysis of the data collected.
