Previous research finds a negative relationship between child care subsidy use and children’s cognitive outcomes, but the mechanisms underlying this relationship are poorly understood. This study tests the effects of child care subsidy use on two potential mediating pathways, child care quality and the family environment, using multiple regression with propensity-score matched groups of subsidy recipients and non-recipients.
