In a baseline study of families in poverty and the impact upon high ability children, parents of high ability, four year old children are participating in a project to understand parental teaching practices in poverty and increase school readiness among high ability children in poverty. Preliminary data collected determined the need for additional home-based curriculum materials, differentiated to the accelerated needs of the ready learner. These data were used to design differentiated home-based early childhood curriculum materials for families in poverty. The current study is a pre-test post-test experimental design examining the relationship of high ability between children and parents in poverty and parenting practices for high ability children in poverty.
