Strategies Used by Selected Leading Mixed Methodologists in Mixed Research Courses

Abstract

Scant information currently exists as to how mixed research courses are taught by the most experienced mixed methodologists. Thus, the purpose of this mixed research study was to examine the strategies used by selected U.S.-based leading mixed methodologists in mixed research courses. Participants were 13 leading mixed methodologists who were instructors of mixed research courses from various institutions in the United States who were interviewed either face-to-face or remotely (e.g., via Skype). Also, they completed a survey extracting background information about their mixed research courses. Several themes emerged that characterized pedagogical strategies used, challenges faced, important pedagogical issues, how mixed research was defined in the mixed research courses, and the structure of mixed research courses. Implications are discussed.
