Abstract

Student engagement in learning has continually decreased since the standardization of curriculum. This study examines the relationship between critical philosophies of curriculum and middle school students' learning experiences in an after-school arts programs. Using a critical theoretical perspective, findings indicate possibilities for increased student engagement and holistic educational opportunities.
