Abstract

The paper tests the relationship between school climate and student behavioral and academic outcomes using TIMSS 2007 data from the top five performing countries and educational jurisdictions from East Asia. A two-step structural equation modeling is used to test the model fit for both the measurement model for school climate and student disciplinary behaviors, and structural model that measures the relationship between various school climate dimensions and student behavior dimensions and student academic achievement. The results of the study have significant implications for leadership practices that school leaders can enact to influence various social and academic factors in order to influence student problematic behaviors and learning outcomes.
