More Than a Reading Level: A Fuller Picture of Adult Literacy Learners

Abstract

As a volunteer with an adult literacy program, Literacy Alive, I have had conversations with individuals who have shown that they are more than their word recognition, comprehension and fluency levels. They are individuals with much strength, experience, knowledge and talents. While the majority of the current research on adult literacy learners does not highlight these areas, my study will. Through the use of narrative inquiry, I will co-create with 5 adult literacy learners a more complete picture of the strengths, experiences, knowledge and talents of adult literacy learners.
