Abstract

This paper presents findings from two years of qualitative data resulting just such research, a three-year formative experiment aimed at designing and implementing a multifaceted, comprehensive vocabulary instructional program (MCVIP) in fourth and fifth grade mixed EL and native English Speaker (NES) classrooms in a high-poverty school. Our objective is to provide a rich descriptive portrait of the learning environments, instructional moves, and student engagement that resulted from MCVIP instruction across classrooms and activities.
