Teacher’s Perspectives on the Purposes of Schooling: A Democratic-Empirical Project on the Aims of Education

Sat, April 14, 8:15 to 9:45am, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom C

Abstract

This project’s primary purpose is to shed light on how teachers think about the purposes of education, particularly public schooling. Explicit attention toward educational aims is rare in empirical research and studies of teachers’ ideas about the aims of schooling are rarer still. In this iterative, qualitative project, a research team interviewed teachers in order to add the voice of teachers to dialogue about what schools are for.
