Abstract

Much of the research on immigrant children has focused on language and academic adaptation variables and has examined school, family and child variables quantitatively, with little consideration of the perspectives of the actors involved in the children’s educational processes. The scholarship particularly lacks perspectives of the main actors: children themselves.
Drawing on a study that examined recent elementary school immigrant students’ schooling experiences, the goal of the study is to show how children, as well as their teachers and families, actively construct new opportunities for learning and success.
