The Use of Mobile Phones to Promote Individually and Collaboratively Created Questions in the Classroom

Abstract

This study examined how the quality of student-created questions using mobile phones may differ if those questions are authored collaboratively rather than individually. Thirty-two fourth-grade and fifth-grade students were divided into two groups, one using an application called JunctionQuiz and the other using one called CoQuiz. This latter mobile application is very similar to the former but requires students to create questions in pairs rather than individually, with one student writing the question text and the other writing possible answers. Results of the study suggests that, while students using both applications were very satisfied with the activity, those working collaboratively produced higher-quality questions compared to those creating questions individually.
