There is an increase in demand of private tutoring by parents in order to increase their children’s achievement in university entrance exam and increase the probability of entering 4-year postsecondary institution in South Korea. Using the logit model, this study tries to estimate how much private tutoring contributes to the probability of attending colleges or universities. Results suggest that the effect of private tutoring costs on access in 4-year college was positive and statistically significant. When using dummy variable of private tutoring, the effect of having private tutoring on attending 4-year colleges is still positive and statistically significant, and this positive effect still stays even when I only look at students in regular schools.
